Engaging With Arts In An Exciting Digital Space, Students Thrive, Make Up For Lost Time
The global pandemic required creative reimagining of CAL programs to meet student needs safely. Luckily, CAL teaching artists and staff excel at creativity and innovation! The majority of CAL programs were reimaged to be virtual. One, a hybrid created by CAL Teaching Artists James Peake and Hal Walker, uses origami and music to teach fractions and writing. CAL supporters may remember hearing about this program from Peake during the interactive origami portion of February’s CALbaret At Home event. Provided in CAL’s online space allowing teachers and students access to the course from their remote learning locations, Peake and Walker’s new virtual program, Rhythm of Origami, has already engaged 11 classrooms and 200+ students.
